We wrongly think that money can buy what we need.
Anyone with lots of money will tell you that friends are worth more.
“It is a good thing to be rich and strong, but it is a better thing to be loved.”
― Euripides
What can one friend do that a million dollars can’t?
A friend will hold your hand in the hospital when you are sick. They will sit with you, stay with you, advocate for you, and help take you home. If you tried to buy this, you might get an employee who would be there, but would resent the overtime.
A friend will feed your dog, get your groceries, and remember to turn off the leaky faucet that you forgot to mention. An employee might do the first two, but they aren’t going to remember what you haven’t.
Friends will support your dreams, laugh at your jokes, and enjoy the dumb things you do together.
A friend will love you for you, not because they share a bloodline, but because they value you. They provide the proof that you are loveable, even by a stranger.
