ADHD: Not Simply an Amphetamine Deficiency

As the school year begins, it’s time to reflect on the recent study that found children in the younger half of the class were more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD. There is also an overlap between ADD behaviors and autistic spectrum which most parents are not informed about. They often have one diagnosis and go no further in pursuing further testing.

The lifelong prescription of Ritalin affects the pleasure centers of the brain. While the newer medications avoid some of Ritalin’s side effects, they do not have long term, large scale outcomes research.

On my website I’ve compiled medline information about ADHD and the Autism overlap. One non-toxic, non-addictive additional treatment parents might explore is homeopathy. Here’s Richard Hawkins’ article on homeopathy and ADHD.
